- Know your water. Water quality is the single biggest factor which can influence the performance of bentonite and polymers. Check it for ph using pH strips and hardness and add soda ash if necessary. Ideal ph range is between 8 and 9. Always mix the bentonite product first then introduce the other additives such as Uni-Drill Test the mud for viscosity using a Marsh Funnel and cup. For most conditions, viscosity should range between 42 and 60 seconds per quart.
- Use a Desander to clean undesirable solids from your drilling fluid. Removal of drill cuttings and sand extends the life of pumps, hoses and swivels and allows the fluid to clean the hole more efficiently.
