THERM-EX GROUT™ & POWERTEC™
PowerTEC™ is a performance-enhancing additive used with THERM-EX GROUT™ to increase thermal conductivity and improve geothermal system efficiency. THERM-EX GROUT™ is a bentonite-based geothermal grout designed for closed-loop systems, providing low permeability and reliable backfill performance.
Together, THERM-EX GROUT™ & PowerTEC™ form an engineered system specifically developed for use as backfill material in earth-coupled heat pump systems. This advanced system delivers elevated thermal conductivity and low permeability, allowing for superior heat transfer while helping protect groundwater supplies. Developed using high-swelling Wyoming bentonite, the system supports efficient installation and long-term performance of closed-loop geothermal systems.

Applications
THERM-EX GROUT™ & PowerTEC™ are used as backfill material for:
- Closed-loop geothermal heat pump systems
- Vertical borehole grouting applications
- Earth-coupled energy systems
Mixing & Installation
For best results, follow these guidelines:
- Add PowerTEC™ to water while continuously agitating
- Add THERM-EX GROUT™ and mix until fully dispersed (2–3 minutes)
- Pump using a positive displacement pump capable of generating pressures above 300 psi
- Place grout using a tremie line positioned near the bottom of the borehole
- Slowly extract the tremie line during placement (where permitted) to improve set and reduce formation disruption
Note: Proper water measurement is critical to achieving desired thermal conductivity. The use of a water meter is strongly recommended.
